please help me identify this 1960s foreign paper money

    i know the picture quality is poor but can anybody help me identify this? it is from the 1960s. my grandfather was in the navy and brought it home with him. thank you

  4. I think it's Japan. I think it is older then you think, though. I pulled out my Krause World Paper Money book that I got for Christmas, and the Japan 500 Yen has a VERY similar design. Your note is not covered in my book, which covers from 1961-current, so I am guessing it is an older issue that your grandfather GOT in the 1960s, rather then actually being FROM the 1960s. Hope that helps!

    I think its Japan 100 Yen Paper.. Picture quality is not good, post another one.

    Bank of Japan, ¥100, Itagaki series initially issued December 1, Showa 28 (1953). The building pictured on the reverse is the Diet Building (equivalent of the US Capitol).


    Hakushaku Itagaki Taisuke
    was the founder of Japan's first political party in the 1870s. He had been an officer in the military forces supporting the Emperor during the war of the Meiji Restoration, which transferred government power from the Tokugawa Shoguns back to the Emperor.
