Here is one of the U.S. half dollar's ancestors, the Spanish Milled 4 bits. These coins are a lot scarcer than the Spanish Mill Dollar and sell for higher prices. I suppose a lack of demand accounts for the much lower mintages.

I saw some but not a lot of the more [relatively] recent fifty-cent/half dollars. Man, I'm getting old. Anyway, I cannot help myself . . .
