Hey, so now to be "on time" (same day/date...not late) with this other specific Kennedy thread...and because these are my very first coin photos...here again is that MS 1970-D Kennedy half that I though might grade 70 (it won't, but still think it's a 68 or 69, if I do say so...it's much better than the photos...! We all think our coins are better/the best...don't we...?
The 1926 Philadelphia Sesquicentennial Half Dollar was struck in very low relief, which had an adverse effect upon its appearance. John Sinnock, who designed the Franklin Half Dollar unveiled his first take on the Liberty Bell here. And yes, Calvin Coolidge was the president when this piece was issued. A commemorative $2.50 gold piece was also issued for this event, but oddly enough many people do not associate the two coins as a set. They were not issued as a set. Many collectors and dealers don't care for this coin. I had one dealer make a cross sign, like when one is fending off an vampire, when I asked if he had one in stock. I guess I'm odd, but I like it. The reverse can be really stunning when you rotate this piece under strong light. The rays behind Independence Hall can look like a rising sun.
The differences between these two half dollars goes beyond "50 Cents" and "Half Dol." The rim on the reverse was strengthened greatly in 1839. One of the odd aspects of these two types is that you don't often see heavily worn examples. Most of them seem to be EF or better.
Eisenhower half- dollar, 1952. I hope folks will let me slide this one into a U.S. coin forum. It is our Ike, and says ½ dol. And a fairly historic piece. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia115623.html
