I am interested in the two coin ASE RP set this year as well. It’s certainly the most expensive year I’ve had with the Mint. Most years I don’t buy anything from them.

My main purpose for buying the Morgans is because I really like the anniversary issues of classic coins. I’ve listened to the glass half full, glass half empty arguments for and against them all year. Let’s face it, if they would have made them one oz, people would have complained they weren’t original size just like they complained about the 24k 2016s not being exactly original size. I clearly remember the whining. To me it seems a lot of people reach for reasons to not buy something to make themselves feel better because they didn’t or couldn’t get one. I could be wrong but who cares what the reasons are.
They switched over to using .999 silver in everything a few years ago. In my mind pure silver is better than a copper silver alloy anyway and it doesn’t matter that they don’t have 10% copper in them to me. It’s a very minute amount. The 2016s were pure gold and they’re awesome.

So, in order to appease the vast majority of people who want them to be the same dimensions as the originals, (which now nobody will praise them for doing) there’s no way for them to be one ounce. It was a foregone conclusion. Not just an arbitrary number to upset bullion stackers. I’m fine with that. They’re not marketed as bullion coins. It’s another special anniversary issue. People who are “stackers” only, are of course going to pass on this issue and its perfectly understandable. I’m not buying them to stack extra silver. It’s a 2021 anniversary collector coin to me. I’m taking my chances that they will not be cheaper on the secondary market. If I’m wrong it won’t be the first time. Interesting discussion as always. Just have to let it play out.

I just checked my orders on the Mint site for the Morgans. My orders say "back ordered". Does this mean my orders may not go through. I got email confirmations and pending charges on my credit card. Anybody?

Nope, everybody with successful Morgan purchases are on backorder until the Mint ships them in "October or November" (originally just October). You're good - just make sure you have room on the credit card come October for them to charge it. :)

Wouldn't expect them to sell at melt, but the Morgans ARE overpriced. They are the same size, weight, and even the same planchets that are used for the Commemorative dollars and those are priced at $74 not $85. And that $74 price for the commemorative dollars includes a $10 surcharge going to whatever group is being commemorated. The Morgans don't have a surcharge. So the Morgans are priced $21 more than they really should be because the Mint makes a profit on the Commemorative dollars at the $64 price. ($74 - $10 surcharge.) And the Morgans have higher mintages than the commemoratives as well

I do not really care to debate something I can't control but your argument does assume their expenses have not increased. I do not know of any business that has not seen a significant increase in costs pretty much across the board. I would not be surprised to see Commemoratives increase in cost too.

They are still currently selling the commemoratives for $74 and have been for some time. If their expenses were rising I would expect to have seen a price increase. Now one possible reason for not seeing an increase would be if they had contraced for the silver before the price went up. But the government does not have a track record of not increasing prices on gold and silver items just because they already have the prices locked in.

I'm sure the mint has realized with all the issue's with the Morgan roll outs that the release of ASE Type II's went far smoother being that they allowed auto enrollments 3 days prior to release. That meant probably 30% auto bought versus clogging the web site and crashing it? I would expect to see more of this or the data they get from first auction coming soon?

Act Two coming August 10th! Big crash!

Theyre also a lot more popular than the commeoratives and a lot cheaper than similar issues would be from a world mint. If they start selling for less than issue price next year then yes they were overpriced, if not price is all relative. It makes sense for more popular things to cost more, it sucks for the people that want them but if they sell out then enough people accepted the price which thus sets a higher value for them than a different product
