Received my 1874-S Trade Dollar from China, it appears to have three fingers and the banner is pointed to the left. The coin is nice looking although the color is a faded silver (Not sure how it should look). As near as I can tell the coin weighs 25 Grams and 0.09 Oz. (Cheap scale). I don't know what else to look for or how to verify the authentisity of the coin other than to send it into a grading company. For right now you be the Judge. I am ready to take my lumps if you think it is a copy fake.

Ref; Previous post - Coin from China.

I'm no expert on trade dollars, but to me the color looks way off, not to mention the reverse looks sand cast. After the 2.98 million threads on here warning everyone about sellers from China, I just have to ask, why?

Sorry, but like I said in the other thread, the coin is definitely a counterfeit. The denticles are a dead giveaway. Btw wasn't the seller NARU'd from eBay?

Slip on the draw during the last minutes on E-Bay. After I bid I realized that the seller was from China.

    Funky Rim

I'm sure some Pro will help us out but I stumbled from the inside towards the middle. That rim just looks nasty. I've only seen one "real" example and I recall it being less contrived.

What does the edge look like? Could this be a casting?

You are correct. He no longer is an E-Bay member unlkess he is now signed on under another name. I have a claim into PayPal, but I doubt it will do much good.

The edges look uniform. I have no way to take a picture or I would post. The pictures you see are from a scanner.

IF your auction had "Pay with [PayPal] and your full purchase price is covered", and IF you used PayPal, you will get your money back. PERIOD!

I got mine for 10 cents from China. Hope you did not get pipped off. I think mine is worth 10 cents of learning and return postage would have been more. Besides, in hand, it FEELS like junk, Looks like junk, and is still only 10 Cents worth of junk.

    Nope

I will begin with admitting this was a 2 am, wife had snored me out of bed and a few brews into "Guess I'll check out FeeBay night."
The add clearly stated it was a copy and the photo they presented was so stamped WITH copy. It had Zero bids, I'ld never SEEN a trade dollar before, so sez, 10 cents just to see one.

When it arrived, the flip was stamped & honest, but the coin was not!

It was a real heads up for me. Weight is way off and execution better than I had feared. So I keep it where some fool may steal it and forgo stuff I value.
But NO, the coin is not "Legal" or authentic, and it is obvious.

Mine a bit the Same.. A seller who I had Purchased from before.. I had Just won an Auction And BAM! there they Were.. My FIRST trade Dollar.. Won Both For Under 50!!
They Took Three weeks to show up.. Lost in the Mail.. While waiting the seller found out they were fake from another sale he had.. so refunded my $$ and said if they show up Keep them.. When they did .. I did..
They were free.. They are neat.. Mine have NO COPY/REPLICA on them..
I had someone say they were from the 20's or 30's.. But who knows.. ??

I have one also that I found at a garage sale. At first I thought, it to be a mat proof, because of the surface had grainey apperance. Later I found that the weight was wrong, and later a member of our club, looked at it, and said it was a China coin. Could have been worse.:)-O)
