Waiting for other lots on Heritage Live to come across, trying to get my hands on one I should have gotten last year, already paying 20% more on latest bid... anyhow, here is the first NEWP w/ Heritages' description: 1864 1C Copper Nickel PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. The 1864 Indian Head, Copper Nickel cent boasts a low proof mintage of 370 coins. Most proof sets of the date include the Copper Nickel cent rather than the Bronze variety that debuted later in the year. The present coin is a spectacular Premium Gem Cameo, with a honey-gold and rose obverse combined with a solid gold reverse. The issue is very rare in PR66 Cameo. Population: 5 in 66 Cameo, 1 finer (12/09) Sorry if I was bidding against anyone on cointalk!
Second new NEWP of the night... Absolute bloodbath on this bidding, I knew it was going to happen due to the web bidding. I KNEW I should have rebid on this item last year when it sold for 1/2 the price. Wanted this one and paid for it. 1883 5C No Cents PR67 Cameo PCGS. CAC.Between the No Cents and With Cents Liberty nickels, almost 12,000 proofs were produced of the year. However, both varieties are rare at the Superb Gem level of preservation. This stunning piece fully merits the Cameo label, with excellent field-device contrast over the lightly gold-kissed surfaces. Population: 11 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (11/09). Like I said, bidding was a bloodbath..........
wow, I was watching the bidding on that Nickel and could tell someone really really wanted it Great coins and wish I lived near FL this time of year so I could see all of these great coins at the lot viewing... I'll settle with being able to check out the 3 Long Beach auctions each year though. Congrats!!!
Thanks, yeah was pretty brutal, almost gave up on it. Sad thing was, it sold last year (the same coin): http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1126&Lot_No=569 I was outbid by $300 because I had to head out of the house at the time of bidding. Oh well. It's staying with me for a long time! And I finished my Five Cent Type Set (1866-Present)!
I wish I could report a newp, but I just got outbid on a Jefferson Nickel I had my eye on in the Bowers & Merena Sale. I bid almost 2X PCGS price guide of $750 and the final bid was 3X my bid. Does that qualify as a blood bath? Hope I do better in the Heritage Auction. Congrats on two great pickups.
jesh: Sorry, but on that V Nickel, I can't see the grade. 1) The mark, even if it is a lint mark to the left of the V, near the coin, plus 2) The mark above the date; plus that spot near the star at 9 o'clock. More than anything, that spot would scare me. They have a tendency to grow with time.
I hear you. I had someone from Heritage take a look at it, plus I've never been disappointed with a CAC coin. We'll see soon, but I'm not the least bit worried
