I'm always looking to upgrade my legionary collection, but I seldom find upgrades within my budget. But I finally got another, this time from Agora Auctions. First, my older example: MARCUS ANTONIUS AR Denarius OBVERSE: ANT AVG III VIR R P C, Praetorian galley, thyrsos behind prow REVERSE: LEG VIII, eagle between standards Patrae 32-31 BC 3.2g, 17mm RSC 27 Ex Jim Knott My new example: MARCUS ANTONIUS AR Denarius OBVERSE: ANT AVG III VIR R P C, Praetorian galley, thyrsos behind prow REVERSE: LEG VIII, eagle between standards Patrae 32-31 BC 2.96g, 18.1mm RSC 27; Sear 1479v; Craw 544/21; Sys 1225 Ex Agora; Ex Tom Mullally
Wow, BIG upgrade! Congrats, @Bing . Very nice. I really like the bankers marks, especially the Private's Chevron on the reverse. Cool. Maybe, a "subliminal" start of your career... LEGIO III Mine does not have bankers marks on this one, just a bunch of dings... RImp Marc Antony AR Denarius 32-31 BC Legio III Ship Eagle Standards S 1479 Cr 544-15
Talk about an upgrade ! Lovely coin @Bing, well done Q PS : I'm awaiting an upgrade too, but from the AMCC3 auction
That's more than an upgrade, you've actually obtained the coin for your collection and booted the "Stand-In Hole Filler"!
I have never considered any of my coins as hole fillers, especially my legionary denarii. But I get your point. I should go through all my MA legionary coins if for no other reason than to count how many I own. I think the number may be around 45-60, but I don't plan to get rid of any. However, the Norns may have other thoughts, eh?
I'm glad that you got my point. After posting the hole-filler crack it occurred to me that it might be taken literally. I certainly don't want to insult people's appreciation of worn coins But ya, the point was less about a lack of appreciation of the old coin, and more about complimenting the quality of the new one!
