Thank! So here's what I'm going to do.. I'm going to post it on YouTube and then share the link here for you all to see!
Sorry... it's me again. I'm going to attach a link to a video that I just posted of some lose change that were found in an old jacket. 1959 penny, nickel, and half dollar. Would you all recommend sending them to be graded or it's not worth it? Thank you!
Strange how the magnet moves to the edge when held directly above the center. Plated presidential dollar coins are readily available. https://www.thepatrioticmint.com/co...=cpc&msclkid=703888a5114016bee463e9a3fdcc0363 I guess it would just depend on what it was plated with that may cause magnetic.
So... would it be wise or recommended to have that Dollar Coin graded, or taken to a PCSG shop for a closer examination, or... I'm open for recommendations. Thanks
not long 1 minute ??? - no special trick .... it was easy, anyone could do it ..the magnets are from speakers as you can see where i ripped off the speaker cone - just put the nickels on the magnet up right - then put the next nickel on and so on ....
Now as in my nickel/magnet picture - those Canadian nickels are "nickel" not steel as nickel does attract to magnets too but in your case ...that's very interesting on your dollar coin
Those older Canadian nickels, as shown by @Snowman, are good feed stock for plating other coins. Makes them slightly magnetic with a mirror surface
There is the possibility it's a magician's coin. Could have something magnetic inside. Look for a seam around the edge.
I examined it from all angles, edges, groove of the letters and numbers, weird gouging, etc, nothing. It almost though is scratch resistant haha I don't know. Apparently it's worth nothing than its face value so.. I lost all interests in it. I do however appreciate all of you guys' help =)
Nickel, the metal, is very hard. Here’s a quarter I found CRH. Slightly magnetic and very shiny Thought it was silver when I first saw it. Alas only a plate job
After seeing the video, I would have to agree with others..."Plated with some sort of magnetic material". You can see that the surfaces of the coin is different from the others...not original.
From the video the magnetic attraction isn't that strong even with a rare earth magnet. Also the coin appears to be gold plated. I would say what you have is a gold plated dollar that was first given a nickel base plating so the gold would adhere better. The nickel base plating is magnetic. Proof would probably be to use an XRF gun on it to see if you would get a Nickel reading.
