Well - me personally - if I buy raw coins I do not hold it against the dealers. I am buying them based off what I know and not what the dealer or a TPG thinks. I honestly can not expect perfection from either of them. In this case there are a lot of people who think this is NT - me included, BUT I see no reason why you can not show it to the dealer just see what he says or offers to do. It maybe just me - but in my opinion just because a TPG says cleaned or questionable color does it make them right. Part of this is because at the same time, I have bought coins from dealers - had them grade higher than what me or the dealer thought. I did not go back to the dealer and say I owe you more money. To me a toss up, but I definetely would not go back with a bad attitude seeking compensation. And as I mentioned - it never hurts to discuss it with the dealer with a polite and positive attitude.
Thanks, Jello and Mark. I appreciate any help I can get, as I have a lot to learn. I did not plan to ask for or even bring up anything regarding reimbursement or any type of compensation just because that grader(s) thought it was questionable. I thought being a dealer, they would like to know what PCGS thought of the coin they sold in case they come across others like it. I will definitely keep the conversation positive and offer for them to check out the coin if they want to. Then, of course, I'll check out what they have in stock now that it's been a few months since I've been there. One big lesson I've learned from this is what Lehigh mentioned earlier in the thread - I only plan on buying certified Morgans from now on til I have much more experience.
Honestly - just do not let this bother you. I know a couple of Morgans my father purchased online we took to several local dealers to look at - they all said they would grade out at PCGS. One came back body bagged - we took it back to my favorite local dealer to ask about again and he said PCGS made the mistake. Still a beauty of a coin, just not worth another grading fee. Enjoy.
And your dealer may well be right - or wrong. In all honesty, there is one heck of a lot of dealers out there that really don't know squat about coins.
I have received coins with the same designation, and after the first disappointment, I am glad they say "questionable" which is to me a "thought out" answer rather than just being safe and saying "AT" if they really don't know. Jim
Looks toned! Naturally to me, But there our people out there which will Try and do it to make a buck!
By the new pics it looks NT to me , and it still is a nice coin and if you like it what's the difference , a nice coin is a nice coin . rzage:hatch::hammer:
