It had been over 6 months of no W finds, and finally found two more from $200 I got at my local bank!
I'm not much for collecting these , what do you figure what you make out after your time and energy. Not to be rude or anything . Just curious ? I've heard Silver searching is a good deal. Many people cashing in on their saved Silver Kennedy's halves .
Excellent, mullinax01! I too only recently obtained some ATBs minted at West Point. I had actually given up. First a swap with a gentleman collector in North Carolina on Numista landed me two West Points. I was mighty pleased. And then, maybe a week later, I too found one in a mixed quarters roll I obtained from a bank. Let me tell you, the first one I found made me yelp in joy! Then I found another in another roll from the same bank. Needless to say, I was overjoyed. So, at this time I've obtained four of ATB West Points - all different varieties. To be honest, I'd sort of given up. And I had not yet been able to convince myself to fork out $10 per coin, aside from the fact I'm not into slabs. I'm sure if you ran across a silver quarter while coin roll hunting, you'd keep it, huh? I know I would.
It has been a few months for my searching also, and a bank which had been closed for the Pandemic re-opened near my house. I bought a box of quarters, assuming they were machine wrapped, but they were all hand wrapped about 5 different wrapper styles in the box. I found 2 silvers and 3 "W" coins, one slug and a Panama 25 Balboa coin. I think they were left in the vault while the bank was closed because the latest date was 2019. A great thrill for me. (I thrill easily).
An easier way of acquiring them is to buy them from ebay Just messing with you. I'm sure you look for other good stuff such as silver, errors and varieties. Nice finds.
It’s just a hobby I enjoy. It’s not any more time and energy than if I spent a couple of hours playing video games or something. And I also search for silver but in my area it’s much harder to ever get rolls of halves
My only W find. I was helping our son clean out his truck and found a beautiful one under the driver's seat. Thankfully, he said keep it dad, I certainly did. Enjoyed your post, thank you.
After all the bad things I've heard from this forum (and the internet) I wouldn't trust eBay with a ten foot pole! And yes, I know you were kidding around...
I've been looking for ages and have not found any. Are you sure that there might be some in North Carolina?
I searched the first North Carolina Zip code I could think of, 27007, ebay has a lot of listings for them under 100 miles from that zip code, so I'd think they are in North Carolina also.
2 finds in 6 months, well it's better than nothing. curious on what your frequency of searching is though? couple hundred dollars a week or a month? customer wrapped rolls? do you ever do $500 boxes? I honestly haven't found that many from circulation, 3 I think, but my major scores were always from searching BU rolls or BU boxes, just when one turns up it's usually a major score where customer wrapped it hit or miss, and usually miss.
I would say an average of $100 a week. I've done a few $500 boxes, but I live in a very small town and don't get the chance to get too many boxes. Of the 10 I've found the last couple of years I think 3 came from mixed boxes, and 7 have came from customer wrapped rolls
