For some reason I am very interested in Morgan silver dollars. I recently got a couple of 100 peso Mexican large silver coins, 1979, but am now wondering if there are any other large size coins worldwide that any of you happen to know about. Thanks in advance.
I have not found anything worldwide on the order of the Morgan or the Mexican coin mentioned above. (so far) But I figured that this is the place to come to ask. If it is out there, you folks would know about it.

Have you seen the 1968 Mexican 25 peso? It is about the size of a Morgan (though the silver is not as pure). There were 3 die variations on this.

Just do a google search for "crown coins". Large silver coins are commonly referred to as crowns.

Thanks to both of you. Yes, I left out that 20 peso coin I had seen only once, but will take another look at it, and will do the search for crown coins, thanks.... (I knew I came to the right place)

I have a 4 oz silver coin from APMEX which features a Norman Rockwell scene. The one with the boy and girl sitting on a bench.

I don't know if the OP is interested in silver bullion coins or not but, if so, Apmex also sells a 10 oz silver round bearing their logo.

  12. Large silver coins can be pretty cool, but I think pretty much all coins are cool when they are large. It gives the artists who made them originally more leeway to add in details, and if nothing else you don't have as much trouble seeing the small details as you would with a smaller coin.

I prefer the Peace dollar, which was minted from 1921-1935. It's my second favorite US design, after the Saint Gaudens $20 gold piece, but I won't ever have any of them, as I can't afford it.

Here is what the Peace dollar looks like. I know this is a world coin forum but the US IS part of the world, last I checked :)

Along the lines of the Thalers mentioned above, here is mine, Sorry for the lousy picture quality, as it's a simple scan, not a photograph like the Peace above. I really need to work on taking some more pictures, eh? I am not sure of those are scratches or adjustment marks on the bust, but I don't mind either way, I still treasure this coin, it was the first coin, or in fact any item I have ever owned, from before the 1800s. I paid $18 for it in 2008. This is between the size of the large US Dollar and the US Half dollar but closer in size to the Morgan and Peace.

I inherited the Peace dollar shown above from my late father, along with three other Peace dollars and two Morgans.

There's the Mexico Cuauhtemoc 5 Pesos made in 1947 and 1948.
30 grams, 0.900 fine, quite larger than a US silver dollar.

My guess that this is one of the largest silver coins which ever actually circulated.

    :)

The Bahamas made a 5 Dollar Silver coin in the late 1960s, 1.2 ounce ASW at 92.5 % purity. A very large coin :). (Sorry I have no pics)

There are a good many coins world round that make the US silver dollar seem reletively small. For instance, check out the Swedish four riksdaler of 1860-1872, the Guatemalan one quetzal of 1894-1900, and the Austrian two vereinthaler of 1857-1868.

Now, if you like 'em absolutely HUGE, hold an Iranian one toman from 1878-1929, or the really big boy-the Brazilian 4000reis of 1875-1900 which weighs almost double that of a Morgan dollar.
The bigger, the better (as far as I am concerned too).

Weryon, what denomination is that British coin? I don't know too much about coins from Victoria's reign, I've seen Saint George slaying the dragon on gold before but not on silver. I need more reference material for the 1800s!
