Do you think you can try taking a photo yourself? :)

I would look at a nice NGC or PCGS. They are protected and they don't carry the reputation that SGS does.

I don't know why the photos are so small, any ideas how to enlarge them?

FYI, when buying slabbed coins, only buy from NGC, PCGS, and *maybe* ANACS or ICG.

Anything else is likely an unreliable self-slabber.

Unfortunately, when I purchased this item,I was unaware that SGS was an unreliable grader.
I saw the ms 67 and jumped the gun.

Oh well, the money used to purchase the coin was a X-mas gift anyhow. So technically,It did not cost me a penny.

Go to a local reputable coin dealer and ask their opinion. You can also look at similar coins in the MS63 - MS65 range for comparison. My local shop (Carlsbad Village Coins) will give you an opinion - no charge. I know that in, in at least one case, they have been used as an authority in returning misgraded coins to eBay.

You're not gonna get an MS 67 Morgan for $60. If it looks too good to be true...it probably is.

The coin has been cleaned, the slab is worthless, the buy price should have been $12.50 (bullion value)

Pete, The first and second important things that you overlooked and caused you to be separated from some Christmas money are:

    (1) Even though it is stated over and over again, " Buy the coin and not the slab " , it's on the premise that the coin is encapsulated in at least one of the top 3 Third Party Grading Services.

    (2) If it looks to good to be real, it probably is.

I'm fairly certain, you won't make that mistake again. Chalk it up to a learning experience and move on. There are always a bunch of folks you can ask here if you need assistance. ( by P/M if you want to keep a "possible good deal" somewhat quiet.

    Have a safe & happy New Year's !

    Tom.

I contacted the seller a requested to return the coin.
Now I'm waiting for a response.I know this is partially my fault for not researching the coin before I bought it. But the customer should be satisfied with a purchase as well.

Do you folks think I am wrong for requesting a refund?

You are exactly right in requesting a refund. This is a step in the right direction.

    Happy new year!

Anybody selling an SGS graded coin should be expecting a return...you are completely in the right to request the return. Good luck!

NO not at all. That is what a "return" policy is intended to do. If upon inspection of the item, your not completely satisfied with it, or it is less than as originally described or "intended" , you have a right to return it. Of Course you don't want to rely on this, but rather develop a routine of research about the potential purchase so you don't have to place yourself in this position more often than what is truly warranted due to some unscrupulous Sellers.

I don't do business with anyone on eBay that doesn't accept returns...and there are many of them, for varying reasons.

I think you are doing the right thing by returning it. Keeping a coin you are unhappy with would be the absolutely wrong thing to do. The vast majority of the coins SGS slabs deserve to be returned (to SGS) in the first place based solely on the fact that they are knowingly trying to fleece the public.

Personally, if I were going to keep any coin slabbed by them I would break it out of its slab immediately. Probably would increase the resale value substantially.

The seller agreed to refund my money.
and I mailed it back last sat.
so everything is resolved. Thanks for all your help.

Congrats! Lesson learned with a bit of stress, but not too much monetary loss! Think how much you've learned because of this over the last week or two!

I didn't see this post originally, but it does look very polished to me. Another dead give-away a coin has problems is when SGS DOESN'T grade a coin MS70 or PR70.

Very smart decision to send it back. I just hope you used delivery confirm or signature confirm. Those who sell SGS coins know exactly what they have (or more aptly put, don't have).
