In the '60s, it was pretty common to find wheat cents from the teens and twenties. It was like finding cents from the '60s and '70s today.

Even today I still like finding old coins in change, some are even older than me:eek:

I still get a bit giddy when an old wheat turns up in my pocket change. Cool find.

About a month ago I received a 1945 cent from a grocery store.

Sorry, but I don't understand why wheaties are so fascinating. If I ever found one in change, I would just feel like I found an old cent. Okay, I probably have several of them in my collection, so I'd just spend it. Artistically, they are boring. I'd get more excited if I found a Merc in change because of its design. And besides, it seems wheaties are found in every coin shop and embedded in toilet seats and other items, so to me, they seem pretty common. But carry on, just don't expect me to celebrate.

Great feeling and nice find in your '37! Last year, I spent a lot of time going through penny rolls. Goin through as many as I did, I pulled many wheaties and put them in 2"x2" holders and noted dates found. I particularly enjoyed finding ones like this 1953D which looked nearly uncirculated and I wondered where it sat for 67 years virtually untouched?

If I find a wheat cent in AU condition I will keep it. Otherwise I can find many well circulated wheat cents in every box of cents I go through. No real value except to fill up a coin book.

My small coin books are filled (except 1877 Indian Head) so I either upgrade with better condition finds that come along, or put in tubes by year.

A Morgan man crapping on a “common coin”?! Morgan’s are as common as dirt! I have the collection to prove it. From stacks of ’21’s, boxes of culls, to monster toners, and MS DMPL’s.
Good job putting a pin in a fellow collector’s balloon. Great way to promote the hobby. Have a nice day.

So Morgans are as common as dirt? Yes, I do see a lot of them around at shows and auctions. But I have yet to see any in a toilet seat.

I'm not saying don't collect them, but they just don't have the appeal for me that other coins do. And I do promote the hobby; not only will I be spending Monday working on coins with a fellow collector, but I've also talked about my collection with others who aren't. And I've passed around the bid sheet I get from my coin club to others in case they want me to pick up any coins from the auction held at the meetings. I have two coins right now to deliver.

A 'merc' vs a wheat is a 'no brainer! With wheats though, I'm just guessing that 99.9% of all people, including non-coin collectors, would keep one if found! I just find it a little odd that a collector would not save one if found but hey, to each their own and I totally respect your decision. I realize that most aren't worth but a couple of cents, but me, i'll always keep them if found. For me, finding one has been a mood changer, in a positive way of course!

Rolls of dateless or common, acid-date Buffalo nickels are cheap...and a lotta fun to see people's faces as I put them back into circulation. :)

I will, at some point, start looking for wheaties to fill the holes. Other than that, I'm not that interested in them. I just don't go nuts over them. But to each his own.
