I recently visited a lcs near me and they had both a 1893s in f12 and a 1889cc in xf40. Both are in a pcgs slab. Now since I have some money in the bank making me nothing I’m thinking of buying one of them. The 1889 cc is $2700 and the 93s is $3600. If it was up to you, what would you pick?
Depends. How much do the coins appeal to you? Which appeals to you more? Do you think you may come across better/nicer ones for the same price? Pictures would be nice.
I'm not an active collector of Morgans by any means, but if I were to purchase any of the coins that you mentioned above, I'd purchase the 93-S if I was in your position.
Both appeal to me. I’ve always wanted a real rarity. Any better and I definitely would not be able to afford. This is my one shot. I like the 93s it’s the king of Morgan’s. A friend of mine that runs a coin shop would go for the 89cc. He’s never had one in his shop and had never seen one better than a g4.
Really hoping that Morgandude11 would chime in. This is a tough decision. I’m leaning toward the 89cc
Ask the owner what can he do if you buy both? Try to cut a deal and cash always helps. That’s a tough choice but I ‘d go for the key date, the 93-S if I could only afford one of them.
Alright I headed back to the coin shop. I still haven’t made up my mind. It will come down to eye appeal. Stay tuned for pics
Same thoughts here. A coin with good eye appeal is always a winner. I’d not even look at the 93-S as F12 is a very low grade… considering the 89-CC is less expensive and a higher grade coin, I’d probably go for that one.
