Wow! Thank you and thank you! I'm about two years into coin collecting and by far the biggest challenge to date has been figuring out how to take a coin pic. I have used many methods but the only success I've had has been to pair my iPhone 11 with a clip-on 20x macro lens and indirect lighting. I'm leaning toward building a photo box to capture the silver and nickel coated coins. I have, so far, been unable to get the lighting right for any bright white coin.

Yeah! I did get the feeling when I read the submission standards at PCGS that more than half of the cost of submission would involve S&H. I'm pretty sure no one offers more than $100 of insurance by default and the price climbs quickly when you adjust the value higher. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you, I appreciate your perspective and I will admit that I have never submitted a coin to be slabbed because I just don't have a good feel for grading and all of the variables involved. Could I ask, what are the criteria that you rely on to decide whether to submit a coin and what about this coin makes it fall below that standard? Thank you for your input.

o_O I have several questions for you. How many "hits" do you allow on a coin you grade MS-67? How many carbon spots? Do you think the eye appeal of the OP's coin is Exceptional?

Definitely 7 hits and 2 carbon spots. But no more. And yeah, I think it's exceptional. I mean, as far as exceptional goes.

Now can I ask you a question? What idiot grades like that, like you're suggesting?

My SUGGESTION to everyone is to look at the chart under Morgan dollars showing a "GUIDE" to numerical grading in the ANA Guide. You will find that a grade of MS-67 or even MS-66 is so far off it is not funny. Additionally there is nothing "exceptional" about that coin's eye appeal.

After reading the chart as a starting point, then examine coins already graded at coin shows to refine your personal standards.

You tried to quantify grading. That's why you got the silly reply from me. You should know better. A lot. And on "eye appeal." Now you and the ANA are telling us what's "exceptional" in that regard? Something as subjective as "eye appeal," and you're suggesting to us we consult a guide book on it? Not on your life, buddy. You don't tell these eyes what to find appealing. Or, exceptionally-appealing, for that matter. Get that straight.

Actually, rather than use the words such as "idiot" or "stupid," I tried to find out (in a very controlled :angelic: way than usual for me :troll:) the reason any long time "ex-pert" collector could be 3 to 4 points off on a coin that is not even close to 67! Lot's of money :greedy::greedy::greedy: to be lost with an error as that. :(

I'm glad you asked. A BEGINNER who eventually learns :bookworm: what a MS-67 coin should look like BECAUSE he/she actually learned how to grade in the first place. ;)

PS The only thing silly was your OP. Your reply later was not silly at all. It is a good start because a 67 cannot have 7 hits and 2 carbon spots. Now you need to refine your numbers. ;)

A very appealing cent and would make a great type set coin.

Am I being insulted, here? I'm just asking.

eddiespin, asked: "Am I being insulted, here?"

 Absolutely not! The answer is inside the ( ) with an :angelic: emoji. I don't post at all like the "old Skip" wishes he could.

IMO from the image, the coin would TPGS grade from 62 -64. The hits on the cheek limits its grade.

Now let's talk about which grade: 62, 63, or 64 and why not 65.

Yeah, let's do that. But let's start with some perspective so we don't go flying off on numbers of hits and carbon spots like you were trying to get me to do. For contrast and comparison here's a 1904 PCGSMS67 on Heritage Auctions, right now, do inform us on how this 1906 stacks up to it, and why (...can't hardly wait for this):

Some folks here appear to be uninterested in learning anything. So, I'm going to go play golf shortly.

You can find worse coins than this graded MS-67 and 68. All I will tell you is this.

We can find examples of over graded, correctly graded, and even a few under graded coins (these don't last long) in TPGS holders. So you can wait forever for any comments from me other than on the OP's coin.

BTW, as a rookie professional in 1972, I quickly discovered :jawdrop::facepalm: the caliber of most collectors and dealers in our hobby/industry.
;) Thankfully, it is much better today. At least I though so.

I shot a 67! On the first three holes before the rain.

To my eye the coin looks MS 63 RB. There are far too many marks, dings, nicks, etc to be MS 65 or better. The toning is uneven and as mentioned there are a few carbon spots.

1906 is a very common date and you can locate slabbed versions in the $125 to $175 range. I would send the coin in to be slabbed, but don't be surprised when it comes back lower than you are thinking.

    Just my opinion.
