This was in my US mint email this morning. I thought it might be fun to accept their challenge. Old design AGE on the left. New design AGE on the right. Spot the differences. At first glance, I spot two; Missing Reed at Six O'clock Branches of Olive Branch Extend over "Y" in "Liberty" What differences do you see?
The rock Mrs. Liberty is standing on appears to be more detailed on the Type 2 AGE than the Type 1 AGE. Additionally, it would seem that the Capitol Building and its dome are more defined on the Type 2 AGE.
The date is placed differently when compared to the rays. The rays are longer on the right side, especially down lower. Difference of olive branch to the ray. Leaves on ground are different.
main difference is the coins are tilted at different angles and the US mint should probably take a hike with their nonsense optical illusions.
Miss Liberty is more buxom throughout, her hair is fluffier, alignment of LIBERTY to adjacent stars, smaller capitol building, designer's initials relocated, rays thicker, more definition in rock, less in leaves, etc.
Capitol seems a tad higher in Type 2, meeting the middle of the 4th ray instead of just touching the bottom of the ray.
Waiting for the thread detailing all the reasons Type 2 is a terrible, horrible, worthless design and they never should have changed from Type 1.
If you click on "more information" (as I did) they show you the differences, so I am disqualified to participate. LOL
