I have an odd sub-collection of pretty, strange, interesting Mercury dimes and was delighted at the selection of error mercury dimes from the special error auction last night. Most of the lots went for more than I was willing to pay, since US Coins aren't my main area of focus any more, but I did pick up a couple interesting additions for relatively reasonable prices.

They had a lot of wonderful error material in the auction and I loved some of the error indian cents, but they just don't fit my collection, so I didnt bid on any of those. Did anyone else get anything in the error auction?

    Here are my 2 wins:

    Nice pickup, @kazuma78. Congrats! :)

Collecting error coins is my other numismatic favorite. I participated in yesterday's error coin auction as well. With the number of coins offered, the auction goes on REALLY long. Some error dealers who stayed for the whole thing said the auction took more than 8 hours. I ended up staying until midnight Pacific Time in order to make sure my state quarter bids are ok... Lucky I have no interest in Kennedy Half or Ike Dollar errors. Otherwise, I would have to stay till 2 am.

I picked up 5 coins last night, including this Septuple Struck (struck 7 times) Connecticut state quarter error. I like errors on circulating coin designs, so I feel happy to grab it. These double struck coins are usually struck 2 to 3 times. Extremely rare to have one that strikes 7 times. :)

Very cool! I was planning on staying up for the whole thing, but it was SO long I put in proxy bids and went to bed. I would have liked to watch it all live, but I would have ended up buying more coins I didn't really need on impulse, so it probably worked out just the way it should have in my case.

That quarter is crazy! I like that its in an old ANACS holder too. On a mercury dime, 7 strikes would probably cost a bazillion dollars, but would be really cool to see. There were a lot of very unusual errors in the auction. It was fun to see all the lots for sale.

OMG that 20% off center mercury dime took my breath away. Those are very rare. What is its value ?

Around $800 for the 7x struck error.
