I'll most likely get my knuckles whacked for some kind of Infringements but I'll do it anyway. (holding my hand out for the Mods to whack 'em with a ruler, remember those days?) I was reading a August 2021 magazine of "Coins" a wonderful article written by Mike Thorne, Ph.D. about Lincoln Memorial cents came to be on page 19.. On the following page it mentioned and I quote " When they show their find on CoinTalk, there's always an old hand on the site who gives a link to the real deal, putting an end to the finder's dreams of fortune." Un-quote.
I will admit I got my "bubble busted" a few times but took the words of wisdom with what it was worth. Shoot now I pop a few myself but with care and concern not to discourage a novice collector. Ok pop the knuckles now. :bigtears:

So, they think we should just go along with dumb posts and raise their hopes?

NOOOOO I think everyone here is doing a fine job. Just showing folks OUTSIDE Coin Talk family sees that Coin Talk folks will set folks onto the "RIGHT PATH" sometimes bursting bubbles but it's still the truth even with bubble popped. lol

Some people come to CT wishing to learn. More though come here because they hope to strike riches. Most of them will not accept no for an answer. Infamous on CT are the "Hong Kong" Continental Curency dollar and the "11 cent coin" person. One was an obvious fake the other a nice error that he insisted was a million dollar coin. Some people psychologically CANNOT accept the truth for one reason or another.

Eh, we have to sleep too. If you know in your heart you did your best to help someone, that is all you can do.

its a reprint of Mike Thorne's June 15th article that was in Numismatic News.

the line before the quote is "Novice collectors think they've hit the jackpot when they find a 1969-S cent with strike doubling"

    Hahahaha!

I didn't want to quote the whole thing, just patting the folks that help on the back even if the "opinions" differ from each other. Heck I get corrected too and I learn from it. Just expected a Mod to "yell" at me for mentioning a named magazine or Persons quote lol

You know, Mike Thorne does post here occasionally.
I don't think you did anything out of line.

Thanks, I know how sticky some of these legal things are with Lawyers making folks do this and that and crossing the T's and dot the i's.

Sounds like a nice quote. And I don’t think you should have your knuckles whacked.

I have nightmares still about that. I was a lefty until Mrs Duncan's first grade class in 1974. She made sure no student left her class writing with the "backward" left hand via a metal tipped wooden ruler. I still (poorly) write with my right hand to this day. Thankfully she was old already, so I am glad she is dead.... It sounds awful, I know, but I hated that woman, about the only teacher I ever hated. :(

I was a chatter, caught many times whispering to my neighbors about silly stuff. <CAUGHT> fingers bent backwards palm spanked with a wooden ruler. It only took four times before I learned. 1960 was a rough year for this 1st grader. Never told parents I'd get WORSE at home.

I was always in the office in high school. In elementary school I was constantly scolded or punished. Nothing they did made me stop or change my ways. And why was I always in trouble, simple. They didn’t like me kissing my girlfriends and I had a lot of them.
