I'm amazed that a metal as hard as a Mint die could be affected this way. I have two Jane Pierce Unc FS coins with exactly the same die polish marks. I recall reading that a die can be damaged by wiping it with a cloth. I find that hard to believe.
Mercury or Lady Liberty is just that, a lady and on by this coin she looks great. All I did to her was buy her and it only took a second to decide that I had to have her.
It's Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian Cap. The head wings represent "Freedom of Thought". Mercury's wings were on his feet.
Wings, schmings.... I didn't know what that stuff symbolized....much. In my defense, if needed, I did not use the term Mercury or describe Mercury as a she. I am aware though, that Elsie was a woman. Yes, so...
[QUOTE="yakpoo, post: Mercury's wings were on his feet.[/QUOTE] Yes...and his cap. Ergo, nickname. Still, he was a he not a she.
Mercury is a he. Lady Liberty is a she and she’s on the dime. And years ago, way back when I was in my twenties, I had a black angus cow. Her name was Elsie. I always thought cows were dumb animals. After having Elsie, whom I still miss over 45 years later, changed my way of thinking. She was smart and she did things that showed signs of love. I kid you not.
I went through airborne survival school in the Air Force. I was amazed how many people couldn't kill, dress, and eat a rabbit.
I can shoot one but I can’t hold one by the hind legs and hit it in back of the neck. They are very good eating.
