The rest of the coins were pretty poorly tarnished - with the quarter being OK other than minimal streaking. The nickel however... wow! I just recently put it into a quarter-sized 2x2. I kind of want to get it graded, like a token of my new emergence into collecting.
Are you ready to suffer the costs of doing such? I fear they will far out weigh the presumed value, but if you feel the need, then by all means do so. The world of collecting does not revolve around graded, entombed specimens, but it boils down to one determinations........ Love the color, love the coin.
thanks! and yeah, I'm aware the cost would equal or perhaps outweigh the value, but that's ok with me.
I’d grade it, PCGS with a TrueView and you’d get a solid price for it with the color for sure. Sweet coin and welcome to CT
it does but it also had a some blemished toning as well, unfortunately. I've seen a few sell on eBay for decent money. It would just depend on the grade this gets.
That nickel is worth the grading cost just to protect it. The color is outstanding but grading fees may be more than the coin is worth. I’d be tempted to leave it in the mint plastic and enjoy it. Welcome to CT.
Welcome to Coin Talk. It's a very nice looking coin. If it were mine I wouldn't have it graded right now. I'd wait a little to see if the toning gets a little more colorful. If you do send it in, please let us know how it grades. Thank you.
First, to CT! That nickel is a beauty! Putting it into an Airtite holder would protect as well as a slab, and it would cost a lot less. Just something to think about. Enjoy!
It is a very pretty coin. I will speak for the other side. I’d have it graded, as rainbow toned high grade proofs command good prices, making the certification costs well worth it. If it grades 66 or above, and I think it will, it is worth it.
Welcome to CT and I can understand your desire to encapsulate the coin as a trophy for you to have, hold, and cherish, so go ahead and send it in. I think you'll be happy and the expenditure will be long forgotten, but the coin will remain a joy.
