I found this penny in a bank for non-wheat pennies. I can't see where a 1 was ever there. No info on Internet or any forums that I can find. Any help would be appreciated.
Tough to tell from these photos, you need something more close up. But just a guess, it may have been struck through grease.
Hey hope it works out, a lot of these folks can give ideas to check out. It's been informative posting on this site, I'm totally new, so unfortunately I know nothing.
Qualify as an "error" coin? Worth more than a few cents? Close uo of date best I can do. I scan the coins into the computer and edit with a program that increases the size when anything is cropped off. Becomes too blurry if any good. I took these with a camera (phone). I don't think they're the same ones. But I'm almost 70 yo so....
Error? Yes. It is a common type of error. no added value for most collectors. Value? Only to a very few collectors. Only worth what the person next to you will give for it.
Thanks for the input. Checking with Heritage Auctions. I can't find where anything like this has happened, missing "1" in date, on a 1966 penny. Could be a one-of-a-kind and valuable to an "Error Coin" collector.
A little grease was on the die in that area. These are very common. Not rare at all. I said this before.
