Just found a coin; do you want it ?

I was thoroughly cleaning my office at the request of my wife (in reality she forced me). In the bottom of an old dusty empty box I discovered a coin of which I have no memory; when did I buy it, was it part of an uncleaned lot, or did I exchange it with someone in my coin's club ? Don't have a clue. It's a nice but common Probus/ Clementia in pretty good shape. Since I'm focusing on the Gallic Empire lately, it doesn't fit much my collection now. So why not share it with one of the members of this forum? One condition though: you are a regular participant here and please you won't sell it on Ebay next week ! Just have to explain why you want it and the best reason will win it !

    Amazingly generous.

I would love to have it to give to my niece & nephew.
I got them started collecting a few years ago, and always bring them something whenever I go to the Summer ANA WFOM.

Not last year tho, and probably not this year-- I am still at high risk and too nervous to travel.

    Thanks for the chance.

Since I am clueless with these, could you add a note explaining what it is and some history, like the denomination?
Again, many thanks for the chance.

Thanks so much for your generosity!

I started collecting ancients this year and so far I have coins from ancient China, Japan, and a few of Constantine the Great. I love learning about all history and it would be cool to add a Probus to my ancients! :)

    Thanks! :woot:

Very generous of you.... I am a US guy and several months back I was desperately wanting an 1853 half. Shortly after I found and secured the coin I talked with a fellow here on CT that wanted a plastic PCGS box that had been collecting dust in my office for years. I picked the box up for the first time in years to ship to him and heard the distinct rattle of a coin inside. I have absolutely no memory of acquiring that coin.... It was an 1853 half. So now I have two!

Looks like Tripolis, cool! And a nice gesture. I look forward to reading the entries.

    Here's a Diocletian 1st issue from Tripolis:

Nice coin and nice offer. I am sure it will find a good home here with a CT member.

I agree, very nice of you. I am sure it will find a worthy home.

Your story OP reminds me of one of mine. A few years ago I was at a shop and saw a nice pillar dollar. I thought to myself, " I have always wanted a nice, (AU/BU), pillar dollar so I bought it. I was putting in SDB so just happened to have a "Mexico" box. I was going to put it in and found 4 other nice pillar dollars. So, at least 5 times in my life I have used the excuse "I have always wanted a nice pillar dollar" to buy one. I feel you, I have TONS of coins I have no idea I ever bought.

how generous of our forgetful @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix. Thanks for the chance. Of the many reasons I would love to have this, history takes the cake. Every time I see an interesting ancient on here, it will prompt me to learn about the emperor/province/era/empire/common life at the time, etc. 2 hours later, I forget where I started.

I have grown up a US collector, only recently have become intrigued by the idea of acquiring some ancients. What had me hesitant, aside from the fact that my current family/financial situation leaves me a budget of $0, is where to start? I would need a theme, a special interest, one that would be affordable and available.

96% of what I have learned of ancient civilization has been a product of everyone here on CT. Although I have just scratched the surface, this would give me a fixation to build a foundation for collecting Roman bronze from a time when it was cool to murder your commander/emperor.

I would also rather go broke than think about liquidating any of my current collection, this should be no different (unless, perhaps it could pay off my house.);)

    Nice gesture @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix
This is not an entry post, but, should I apply I would tell you I always use public transports when I travel, and try to promote them to others.
    In two words I'm pro-bus :D

    Fantastic gesture, @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix.
One of my 2 Probus coins is exactly this one. So I'm NOT in :D I really hope it will go to a beginner who just starts studying ancient coins.

Hey that's great! I only have a few ancients, but they not really my thing at this time.. so I would like if my name gets pulled that it goes to one of our YNs (Let's call it Matthew Kruse this time as he seems to like the coin :D)

Great rediscovery, lol. But, even greater offer. I'm just barely getting into Ancients, but I'd rather see it go to someone else, so I'm not a candidate. But, I will say again, thank you.
I have a Roger Williams Mint token from Connecticut that I would gift to someone that collected them. Guess I need to start a thread, too?
