I think the TPGs are really tough on 38 D Buffalos. I'll guess MS 65

MS 66 was my guess before the reveal (the price helped eliminate some options but 66 would have been my guess regardless ...nice buffalo!

I'll be honest I looked at a few 67s but honestly this coin was nicer then the few 67s i saw and starting at 5x what i paid for this 66. This one had a very nice strong clean strike the 67s not so much.. I'm quite happy i got this one :D

As you saw, there are times when a lower graded coin can have better appeal and stack up favorably against a higher grade. Trust you eye and go for the better example, especially when there is a significant price difference.

Ok.. one of my buddies a real nickle nut :D asked me for a few close ups on the mint mark.. after long careful examination we decided we can not bet sure of the attrib.. but it looks like d/s with no doubt.. FS 511, 512 or 513 is the question that has to wait until it's in hand... That could make this under 50 coin a 300+ coin Wheeeee!!!

If it turns out to be a 1938 D/S Buffalo Nickel, the closest one I found is WOOM-004 on this site: https://doubleddie.com/938155.html. I'd post a photo from Wexler's site but I don't think that's allowed. (Copyright). When you get the coin in hand, perhaps you could post better photos to see if it is a match. Good luck.
