I tend to pick these up in PCGS or NGC when I can. I try to pay little or no premium for them if possible. Post one if ya got one. :smile

Awesome! That's the real deal! I really like it.
Is there a point that it gets to hurt the metal though?

Nice article. I think it also goes into photographic aspect of coins. I've got a really awesome 1938-D WLH and to look at it, one can barely see some rainbow colors, but when photographed with certain lighting, colors seem to jump out at you.
The reason I was asking was because it looks to me like it may be beginning to turn black at the T in TRUST, and I've read somewhere that turning black is the beginnings of a silver coin being damaged. There has to be a point that a coin enters a danger zone of being damaged by the air thar surrounds it, but I am not an expert concerning when that point begins. Thus, another reason to be a member here at CT, to try and soak up some knowledge that surrounds us here.
Once again, I really like the coin. It just so happens it is my birth year as well, ha! The strike around the obverse lettering is really nice.

Yes, that used to be the case, not so much now. Those with more knowledge and experience know that the vast majority of all coins in old holders have been so picked over and already re-submitted that those coins still remaining in old holders are still in those old holders for a reason. That reason being that there is no way that the coin will up-grade and in fact may stand a good chance of being down-graded.

So about the only ones who still practice this crackout game with the old holders are those who do not know what I said a above.

When it comes to upgrades and coins in old holders, you really have to know your series and what the TPG's are looking for at certain grade levels. IMO, PCGS is all about lustre. I've been fortunate to get several upgrades:
