Here are my two Victoria Sovereigns, couldn’t get the plastic open.
I want to get all the Monarchs heads…I’m sure someone out there has all of them……Can I see, drool and otherwise covet.

    Love a good gold sovereign!
I wish I could afford them.

    Nice 1896!

My first Sovereign was also an 1896 Victoria, but showing more circulation than your example. It's my favorite and the one I can handle without worry when I get the itch to do so.

In keeping with my username, I much prefer the quintuple version myself :)

Great coins to collect - so many possible set combinations with many good books about them.

    John Skelton Morgan man!

I've been looking for the "Godless" florin that caused such an uproar when it was issued. I first heard about it on the Masterpiece series on PBS. Anyone know anything about it? I hear it's expensive.

The 1849 gold full sovereign features the "gothic portriat" of Queen Victoria, earning the coin the epithet of "Godless Florin", again thanks to its obverse design. The reverse, however, shows the crowned shields of Englands, Ireland and Scotland, with both sides of the piece being engraer by William Wyon.

Spink reference 3890. There are two types listed under this reference. 'WW' where WW initials are present in between where the bust meets the beading and the date. The second type is 'WW obliterated' where the initials have nearly completely been obliterated by the inner circle. The WW obliterated type is rarer.

You can find them for sale - not that expensive in the lower grades, a bit more for nice ones.

This is my 'godless' Florin. It was of course, a silver coin worth 1/10th of a Pound as it says on the reverse. As far as I am aware it was the only denomination that was 'godless' and only for 1849. Godless Florin.jpg

The florin is actually a silver coin. One florin = two shillings.

The 1866 is not rare and as for the die, there were at least 40 of them used. I do not believe that die # 34 is rare.
