Hi all! I was browsing the latest Savoca auction, and saw this coin. It is an antoninianus of Claudius II from Smyrna The obverse die used for this coin looks very similar to my Smyrna Claudius II, although the reverse is different Unfortunately, the obverse of my coin isn't very good, so I can't be certain it's a die match. However, some features match, such as the slightly lowered "L" of "CLAVDIVS" Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Obviously, if the two coins do share an obverse die, the Savoca coin would be an interesting addition to my collection! Thanks!
Looks convincing. Yours is rather worn, but there's nothing I can see that suggests it isn't a match. I hope you win it. Having an obverse die-match with two differing reverses is kinda cool to have in a collection!
I think that my record within my collection is 9 different reverse types and 10 different reverse dies paired with a single obverse die with another reverse type that I am aware of also paired to this die in the BM that I don't have an example of.
