    This statement is simply "True"...

Have you ever given serious thought of why you are a collector, a "custodian"?
I have recently contemplated the reason's for my own collection and what brought it about.
For me I suppose it is the beauty, the history and America herself. In these things I see strength of a Country as it once was, pride in a Nation that set no boundaries, having the right to proclaim her freedom and display that pride in exceptional works of Art. If I ever will be credited for anything in this World, I hope it shall be in the notes I preserve, protect and pass down to my child. Yes one day they will be owned by perhaps even some of you. My only request is that you treat them as Kings and as a reminder of where it is that you hail from.

God Bless this Country, Keep it.. protect it and guide us back to strength and prosperity.

That's my thought process because in my years in retail I have had kids paying with Silver Certs., Buffalo Nickels, Silver coins, etc. and my first thought is "What has this money seen?.

One can only hope but you also have to figure that of all the old collectors who are passing away now, how many of them have ever seen the Internet or know how to search google? Not many of the old folks that I know. Most of the widows, just let the old guys twitter with their coins, how many of the widows are Internet savy? Sure some of the kids might have an interest but how many times on this very forum have we read the posts from seasoned collectors that say things like. "after I'm gone, they can do what they want with it" or "none of family cares about coins."

It doesn't sound good. Only a minute percentage of collectors nation wide even have Internet access. Sure if you are 30 or under or use computers for your day job, the chances are much better but again, outside the major cites, the hinterland is not all that wired, I'm sorry to say.

All we can do is make sure we atleast make our membership aware but I think even though some just don't care...but we can only offer information.

When I find an old nice shiny AU or better cent I immediately 2 X 2 it. Then I decide whether or not to start another folder because the coin deserves it.
I always feel that some how it was missed or overlooked by some other collector. I also think that all other cent collectors have many more coins than I do and that they are culling there collection.
    Then I say " Thank You ".

There's no telling the whole story behind the rolls you found. I know people who took boxes to a dealer and were told the wheaties and drummer boys were only worth face value. Sure, we can get more on ebay, but sometimes there is a convenience factor that makes the bank a good option. Maybe she left those rolls at the bank where you picked them up so that she could focus on a market for her husband's walking liberties.

And no, it doesn't have to be a dog-eat-dog hobby. It's one thing if you're trying to keep your coin shop open and have bills to pay, but the hobby collector doesn't need to be cheating anyone. It's often possible for everyone to go away happy.
