So I see there are some apps on the iTunes store. Most arent that good but PCGS just put up their photograde app and it seems to be solid.

    So here's the question(s)...

Do you have an iPhone ? and if you do would you use it in regards to your collecting ?

I have a partnership with a guy that does iPhone apps and we are always looking for niche markets to develop apps for but when it comes to coins I cant see how an app will sell.

Any ideas or if you have one but dont want to make it public and want to partner up send me a PM.

The only one that came to my mind was for Morgan and Peace $ VAMS....

I have a Blackberry Bold, not an iPhone, but I keep photos of my own coins on my BB so I can see which ones I have, which ones I need, and which ones I might want to upgrade when I'm at shows. And even though you don't do apps for BB, perhaps it would be helpful for your iPhone apps. It would be nice to have the photos somehow linked to my inventory list, and also to a current price guide.

I've owned an iPhone, but am now using an Android, and I've often thought a phone could be usefull for collecting. My biggest issue with it is the photo quality, specifically on the iPhone, just really isn't that great.

As such, how could a realistic grade be assigned based off of an iPhone photo?

Some of the new Android smart phones are starting to be bundled with much better cameras but still I think the quality of the imaging will really limit "mobile" grading.

Regarding the quality of photos on cell phones, I have to say that the photos on my Blackberry Bold are really high quality, actually they're pretty amazing, including photos from Ebay and other auctions.

I own a iPod Touch, basically the same thing, except it isn't on a network to make phone calls and such. :D
I have this app, and I find it rock solid, and would probably be able to buy a coin comfortably with the photos they have. They are pretty good indicators of what the coin should like in certain grades.
I like it, and I would support having an app for Morgan and Peace dollar VAMS with close up shots on each and every one, and I would definitely use and pay for that app.

I have a Storm. I agree, photos on it are better than my monitor.

I have an ipod touch and it won't load the app. says its incompatible with your ipod. The PCGS page says made for iphone and ipod touch.

    Go figure?

remember when blue tooth first came out and you could activate a setting so phones would inform you if other folks with similar activated settings were nearby?

Maybe we need an iphone app where I list my want list and sell list and when I walk around the show it lets me know when someone else with the same app has a match for me :)

The secret to high quality photos on your iPhone or Blackberry is don't take the photos with your phone's camera. Take the photos with a good camera and transfer them to your phone.

I am going to try and load my want list on to my phone to use at shows. I think its better than shuffling through a book or notepad...

But there has to be apps collectors/dealers would want ... and ones that they would be willing to pay for...

There are two apps on the app store, which I have not downloaded that look cool

    iCoinCollectSilverDollars and iCoinCollectCents

These have extensive lists of all the coins in that denomination. You can select a date, and add the condition, the price you paid, the date you bought it, and how many you have of that coin.

EDITED TO ADD: There are also many more, like US GOLD and Presidential dollar. Just check out the APP store

I have a palm pro with windows mobile 6.1, It has win office including excel. I just transfer my excel sheets with all my coin info from my lap top to the phone and I can see everything. It works great, but at the same time I would do just about anything to find a photo grade app as you are talking about for my phone. Well anything but use AT&T.
