Spent the long weekend watching the Sons of Liberty mini series. It is a great series that dramatically portrays the events of the 1760’s that led to the founding of our nation. Their is an underground movement led by Samuel Adam’s that circumvent the Kings taxation. Membership to his underground group is displayed by possessing a coin. The coin is shown briefly several times and appears to be a silver Nova Constellatio….. Oops…… The Nova Constellatio is a copper coin struck in the 1780’s……. Still was a good series though.
I prefer to watch April Morning. A decent movie about the start of the war for Independence. My wife rang our outside bell yesterday at 2pm 13 times. The Liberty bell was rung at 2 pm on July 4th when the Declaration of Independence was signed. It was rung 13 times, once for each colony.
A few years ago, I posted a sighting of either a Seated or a Barber dime reverse in an early Stan Laurel film from 1918 called "Just Rambling Along." For those who don't want to click back in time, here is the screen shot I took from YouTube:
But think that was somewhere between myth and the wrong date. It was rung on July 8...not July 4...is info I see documented most often. But so what...glad she rang it yesterday and any day for that matter...! There was a recent thread/info here on Liberty Bell Day. Also, many may not know that the Declaration of Ind was not signed all on July 4...started on July 2 and wasn't all signed by the 56 patriots until sometime in August, I believe.
July 4th is the chosen holiday not the exact one. Since our Independence Day, "When was America not GREAT." I personally would not trade America for any other country, and certainly would never think of America not being GREAT! My opinion.
I thank my father and the United States Army for letting my family live in many countries in Europe and South America. I was in Uruguay in 1967 when Russia celebrated their "Independence Day" for Lenin and Stalin. Weren't the Russian citizens lucky? My father, brother and I served out country. My father served in WWII, my brother and I served during Vietnam. I love the United States of America.
