Holy cow. Just answer the question, guys. The OP asked if he got a good deal. Answer "yes" or "no", explain why and move on. I don't see the point in turning a simple "good deal" thread into a ideological debate over bullion premiums.
BigH: Because I take more than a glossary view of the subject hardly makes this 'ideology' in my perspective. I've given my answer to the OP and explained my answer(s) inside and out during the discussion. BigH, you've only commented about the commentary, what say you to/for the OP's benefit as you've instructed others simply do, and move on?
I did, several posts ago in the first post I made in this thread. Here is the quote from that post. Please read the thread before you pass judgment. Thanks.
I don't think it was a great deal. It wasn't terrible, it wasn't great. The OP could have done better, but it's not the end of the world. I'm not a bullion expert, but from what I can see, he overpaid by about $3 at most. If that's the biggest mistake he makes as a collector, then he/she is one lucky person.
There are pixelated guys all over the USA waiting to poo poo on you. Check out the main two posters to this thread. Hilarious. You bought a single 1 oz. bullion coin and these two people are all over it trying to dissect it to death. Shows a lot. And PRICELESS!!!!!
More comments about the commentary... now funny and what shows a lot is also what brings such comments out of you, obviously it wasn't to pay more attention to the OPs question, but if you're going to post something, at least include what you think about how the OP did, what say you?
Thanks for giving your thoughts to the OP. I still find your other implied targeted comments towards my position disrespectful and judgmental. I'm no bullion expert either, never claimed to be and I never implied this had anything to do with the end of the world.
It is what it is. as long as he was happy with the purchase, and collecting what he wants to collect thats all that matters....
Is it judgemental to say that you have posted 14 times in this thread, espousing the exact same opinion in each post? If so, then I guess I'm judgemental. Like I said, I really don't see why it's necessary to try and convince everyone else of your opinion. I respect your opinion entirely, but I don't respect you trying to push it on everyone else. Just my thoughts. Since this line of discussion has nothing to do with the original question posed by the OP, this will be my last post on the matter.
Thanks BigH for also respecting my opinion regarding the OP. After all your reply to the OP didn't differ all that much from what I'd also "espoused". My intent is not to push my opinion on anyone. Never said that anyone should in any of my replies. I replied with my position or provided clarity for my replies to questions or retorts that I received, esp. those that claimed I misunderstood something, took a word/phrase out of context, dissected my position to disprove it or those replies that merely chose to pass judgment initially for holding up my position. I'm glad you recognized that my opinion remained the same throughout my replies.
Thanks everyone for the comments, I bought this to stick away in my collection to someday leave to my grandchildren. I don't have very many slabbed coins either graded or ungraded. Whether the first strike means anything, I don't care. I now will have one in my collection. I am disabled and pretty much homebound so the internet is all I have. I was simply looking for affirmation from my fellow collectors here at CT, that I did not do incredibly bad for a coin that I think will look nice in my collection. Again, thanks for your thoughts.
The coin has been graded, It went to a grading service NGC, Brilliant Uncirculated is the grade. As far as First Strike does mean something, maybe not to you. I can respect that. First Strike will sell for more and is more valuable. These are the facts. Not my opinion
I do not believe the coin is genuine - please posting pics so I know!! Silver Amerikan Eagles were fürst minted in 1878 so I do not knpow if this is real.
