Just got this from Teletrade for $90 ($104 with buyers fees). Any way, the other Teletrade prices were $299 on Nov 18th PCGS, $242 on Nov 15 PCGS and $173 on Nov 8 09 NGC (incorrectly listed as a PCGS coin). How did I do. I have not bought any coins for a while and I have not been as into my coin collection, but couldn't resist what looked like a deal. Any thoughts?
Not a lincoln guy but it looks good. I noticed that the last three auctions appeared to have some deals in them. I think with the Holidays they probably didn't have as many buyers. I picked up a couple of Ike's but can't say they were a real deal.
I would say you did good on the price. My only concern would be around the PLU(EPLURIBUS) and O in one - looks a little weak and banged up in that area. Other than that I think for that price you got a nice coin you could probably flip on ebay and make some money. Just my thoughts and own opinion.
Looks like a good deal on a decent looking coin. Did you also check prices realized on Heritage and Ebay? In general, the higher up the ladder in terms of grade and price a person goes, the more a coin has to stand on its own merits (vs. the grade on the holder). PCGS recently changed its copper guarantee. Prior to the change, PCGS red copper often sold for more money because they used to have a stronger guarantee. NGC guarantees copper for 10 years.
I hate to break it to you, but the average price on Heritage for a NGC 66 RED 1947- Lincoln is $40 and the last I saw on eBay went for $57.
How did I miss those auctions? I know I checked heritage - I saw the ones for 170 or so for PCGS, but not those 2 for NGC.
Isn't there a maxim about not buying common coins in uncommon grades, especially if they are in the wrong holder? This coin is the perfect example. It is a registry coin and unless it crosses to PCGS then it is only worth a fraction of what the PCGS Registry players overpay for their coins. And to top it off this coin exists in significant numbers in original rolls, meaning that the certified population in this grade is certain to increase over time. To answer the OP's question, no I do not think you got a great deal, but the coin looks nice and if you are happy with it that is all that really matters IMO.
Im wrong. and like always rlm is correct. I searched ebay and you can get it buy it now with a best offer for 78
hmmm, after re-reading what I wrote it seems "preachier" than I'd intended. It was not my intent to be condescending, please do not take it that way.
