Specific gravity measurements of the coin can determine the metallic composition best with no damage beyond carelessness of handling. Send it to someone who can give an analysis and opinion with it in hand. Jim
Yes - not guaranteed but damn near. Very good thought, but of course this is a lot easier to check that it would correct for some known alloy than guessing the allloy from an infinite unknown list of alloys Ruben
Hi $incere. I'm sure I have the catalog for most every auction Stacks had about this time frame. I took a long look at 1993 with no luck. With more information I might be able to help with the auction info.
Go and talk with the dealers, they are more knowledgeable then us. If they think you might have something, go and send it for authenticity. Sure it might be worth a bit but if it's genuine, you have something that's quite rare.
Well, What? Every question you have asked about your coin has been answered. Tell us what answer you are fishing for and I'll personally provide it to you. Ask a specific question or questions instead of generalities.
Rubern, I was thinking the largest concern was whether it was made of silver alloy or not. I know there exist sp.gr. values for the common %/% for silver and the other common coin and medal composition alloys. It has an odd sheen in the photos for high silver alloy ( at least in my monitor Jim
sincere - do not assume this board has experts on this particular coin waiting to give you their opinion. I strongly suggest that you visit a local dealer who can send the coin to NGC or PCGS for certification. That will be the ultimate test for your coin. If it is as valuable as you suspect, then that certification is vital to know especially if you ever want to sell it. Others will see that it has been certified as genuine and won't have to wonder like you are doing now. Getting the coin certified won't cost you that much and it is well worth the money to get the answer you need. I think you've probably gotten all this board can give you on what you want to know. Good luck!
