I've been trying to buy a Peru Gold 1 Libra coin but the prices are way too steep for me right now so I opted on getting this 1/5th Gold Libra. Tiny a$$ coin, just a tad bigger than a Mexican Dos Pesos Gold coin but that's okay, it's a great looking coin! Coins with indigenous people are part of my collection so it was a perfect buy for me, sellers pics! Feel free to post your indigenous Gold or Silver coins!
I managed to get one of these a few years ago; it is not in as nice shape as the OP's coin but here it is: Peru Libra 1898 Gold, 22 mm, 7.98 gm Obverse: Manco Capac facing right VERDAD I JUSTICIA / UNA LIBRA (Truth and Justice / One Pound) Reverse: Arms of Peru REPUBLICA PERUANA LIMA R.OZ.F / 1898 (R.OZ.F was the mint head assayer) Peru struck these gold coins from 1898 to 1930 as part of a monetary gold standard. They didn't circulate much and some numismatists call them "bullion coins". They are minted to the same specifications as the British gold Sovereign, which makes them close to the US five dollar gold piece. Manco Capac was the legendary founder and first emperor of the Inca dynasty.
I had never heard of a Peruvian Libra until today, and now I see several of them in one day! I have been to Peru and I have more than 50 Peruvian coins, no gold as yet though. Of course, now I lust after Peruvian gold. I have here a coin with the last king of the Incas, Tupac Amaru. 1974 10 soles de Oro.
