That was someone's fun little project. I have on occasion meticulously "modified" a coin on purpose, for no other reason than to make someone look twice and perhaps find it interesting. I have one in the piggy bank now that will go out someday...

I did not do this coin below, but it is one of my everyday carry wallet pieces. Your interesting cent reminded me of it. Somebody painstakingly filed little saw teeth around the entire reverse of this 1780 4 Reales piece a very long time ago, probably when it was still circulating money. I don't believe they intended to debase the coin (eg: clipping), since they also cut their initials in the obverse. Probably a lucky piece for them, too.

Someone sure spent some time and effort to ruin that coin. It’s just damaged.

I'm sorry Robin but yes, it was. What I said in my first post is exactly what was done to that coin.

While every coin is unique, I've seen this type of coin several times.

I suspect it is a training event to learn how to use and control pressure applied to copper snips by those who were training to do electrical work with copper wiring. How much pressure can you consistently apply to cut, secure or strip copper?

I grew up where there were a lot of men in the electrical trades to meet the needs of the plants in the area. Perhaps that is why I've seen several. I do think most will be dated from the 50s to the 70s though.

That is also the time frame for an old time temporary fix when they used fuses rather than circuit breakers. It was not uncommon, even if dangerous, to place a cent on the end of a blown fuse to restore electricity until a replacement could be obtained. Like I say, it was unwise, but common at the time. Many house fires were started when this was done, but in cases where the fuse did not go out for cause, it seemed to be a cheap do-it-yourself solution. The damage might only impact one side of the coin as it is screwed in and tightened, though I do not know if the end of the fuse or the receiver had the hard metal structure to do this. Fuse systems were largely replaced with circuit breakers in new construction in the sixties leaving only older houses with the fuse systems.

Anyway, these are just alternative possible explanations for such Post Mint Damage and why I might have seen more than my share.

Only if you are willing to stop labeling everyone who disagrees with you as a TROLL.

And you should not judge before examing all the evidence.

I only answered the simple question. I was not making any comment on the subject matter being examined when you chose to use the term TROLL as a substitute for a reasoned analysis and response.

Troll - answers all questions with a vulgar message that is not relevant.

ie - It this a doubled die?
Troll - edited yes or You can earn $50,000 a day for 2 hours work... aka spamming.

NOT A TROLL - No. This is another form of Doubling or NO, this is Post Mint Tooling or It's not likely because...

Your answer was answered in a very defensive manner. Which might suggest to some, that you were the one that may have posted it. I would be careful in the future how you phrase your responses. You could implicate yourself.

Why are you so concerned about a comment that has nothing to do with you and that I posted on a comment that was clearly Spam? Tell me why that bothers you so much? Because it clearly does.

I let my yes be my yes and my no be my no. I do not assume false identities to manipulate a conversation or for any other reason other than new IDs when the old one cannot be retrieved.

If you did not see MY NAME, I did not post it.

    That is all.

Quote: "Only if you are willing to stop labeling everyone who disagrees with you as a TROLL". That was directed at me. So again I ask, why are you so concerned about a comment that I made that has nothing to do with you and that I posted on a comment that was clearly Spam? It's not a hard question to answer.

You know, sometimes people just can't get a direct answer and need the last word. So I will not respond anymore so you may have it.

I think we both know it's not about the last word. It's about integrity and knowing when to just say you made a mistake. It's called the High Road and it's obviously a road you would need a GPS to find. Good day.

Looking closely at the cuts each appear to be slightly different. Could it be code or script of some sort? Man made PMD in my opinion. Thanks for posting it.
