OMG please someone tell me this is a rare vam here? I messaged the seller, I'm sure he's hoping the winner pays tonight! Wonder if it's two people who haven't yet learned to distinguish a "3" from an "8" in the date?

It appears to be Vam-1O- bar wing. This variety can bring a decent premium in higher grades depending on how many people are actively building a Peace Dollar variety set. It isn't ridiculously rare, and more examples have been surfacing in the past few years, bringing down the value. In 2015 an auction for an MS-65 example realized $1,400. More recently, this year, an MS-65 sold for $360.

The variety is characterized by a long spike clash on the eagles shoulder with a progressing die break at the junction with the wing. There is also a somewhat spiderwebbed die crack running thru Liberty's crown and hair.

Here is my example, unattributed and I paid far less than the highest bidder of the one in OP:

Glad you clarified that as I couldn't see anything special about it at all. :cigar:

If you close one eye and squint with the other, that might be an 8:p
That would explain some of the bidders.

This one who the hell knows what goes on with some of these things.

That works out to $1.75 per wheat cent...
IF you spot a GEM in there point it out please.
I sold 1040 wheats in better shape at our local coin club meeting for $55.
