I went to the bank this morn. and found a 1977 $50 FRN. It is in rather good condition, better than most of the newer bills you see in circ. I was wondering if is has more value than $50.
COIN PRICES magazine does a U.S. Currency, Canadian and Mexican issue once a year in March. The 2009 copy list the Morton - Blumenthal $50 FRN at $75 in XF, $65 in CH CU (63) and $100 in GEM CU (65). I don't know why the XF RETAIL value is higher than the CH CU. If your note is a replacement or STAR Note the listed values are higher. Maybe a currency collector can weigh in, tell me I'm all wet and provide you with better values? HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Naahhh your not all wet, just a little "freezer burnt"..no pun intended :smile The 77 $50 note will vary in price range depending on many factors. If you could post an image it would help alot...trying to put a value on something unseen is difficult at best..even with images or scans, but they greatly support a ball park. RickieB
your image is way too small... I suggest opening an account with photobucket, uploading the image and then copying/ pasting the [IMG Code] in your post.. RickieB
the bad thing about this is,it's part of my spending money for the week, and now I don't want to spend it. So I am 50 bucks short this week.
Well the note is a New York note it has seen it share of handling as well. It has a center fold and possibily a light tri-flod as well. The Horizontal fold across the center did not do any justice to it as well... at best it might grade out EF at best.... you can do a price archive search at Heritage at www.ha.com If it were gem, then I would say save it..eveh a High end AU, but as you can see the corners are rounded, the edges have seen wear and the folds are embeded into the paper... I love the old notes. Not bad shape and it hasn't been penned. I would keep it or sell it to a dealer so another collector can buy it. Here's a $20 to go with it. I paid $30 for it, so maybe that helps as a point of reference pricewise.
CU...not a crinkle or fold anywhere in it. I saw it at a local dealer and had to have it. I highly suspect by its condition someone found it immediately and set it aside during the late 1970's. I think I got a decent deal on it for it being a radar note, IMHO.
I went and got an opinion from a dealer I frequent often. He told me my $50 bill was worth $50. It would have to be uncirculated to be worth anything. I am going to spend it,because I don't have much more money left.
Budget limits keep me looking at $1 from the bank but nothing higher. Turn your fifty into 50 ones and see if there's anything. If not they spend easier than a $50 and small businesses are happy to get some extra $1's.
well i have some 1934 $100 bills..... i looked on fleabay and noticed they sold for $2 to $10 over face value.... not worth it in my opinion..... spend away!!!
I check all my paper money for stars, radar notes, low serial numbers, etc. Treat them like lottery tickets but if you lose you still have your money. Keep looking, you'll eventually find something worth keeping...
