Amazon tells me it was published in March 2009 ?!?! If that's the case, and I need one, I ought to wait three more months to get the 2011 edition? Does this make sense? Am I missing something?
I think I'd agree. But keep in mind the pricing isn't that valuable. The greatest value to me is the historical information. Mintage info should be updated one more year if you wait, or you can look up elaine's posts here to get current mintage data. If you'd like to take a slightly different approach the first editon of the Red Book Professional Edition is out. It has certified counts and value estimates for EF40 thru MS66, and Auction Records. Just a thought.
The 2010 book has, in fact, been out for a while. I guess it depends on your interests. If you need up-to-date prices, I would wait 3 months. If you need historical info, buy now.
What they said. However, I'd buy the 2010 and the 2011. Also, consider the Professional edition, as Penny Guy mentioned, great info and many items not mentioned in the regular Guide Book.

Even in March the 2011 probably wont be close to where they really are.
Yes. The year on the RB is always a year ahead. An odd tradition that started when it came out and was never changed. So yes, 2010's will be 2011.

Ran short on time, Did get out to see the statue of liberty, then of course I had to stop at Orange County Choppers.. Was a fun trip.. Maybe this fall I will ride over for a weekend or something.
IMO since the Red Book is a poor source of accurate coin values you don't need to buy one each year (unless you collect them). I get one every 5-10 years. My current one is a 2008. And I prefer the spiral bound ones.
Why do you NEED one? Sure, it's a good read and very informative but NEED? The prices are out of date 2 months before it even goes to press. It's a history lesson about American coins and nothing more. For casual reading, wait 3 months and get all the Lincoln cent info. By summer you can find it on the $2.99 table at Books a million.

If you want the new book with posibly new info get the 2010 or 2011. If you want up-to-date prices, get a three or four year old one.
