I need your help I have an opportunity to buy this coin from an individual he’s wanting $300 I just wanna make sure it’s worth the money to buy this coin I know that it is kind of rare so let me know what you guys think if it’s worth it
Pass. It is harshly cleaned. It has an unattractive dead look. I call it a coin with minimum eye appeal.
I wouldn't buy it raw if it were me $150 or less if certified and proven to be authentic, not=pass.Don't have one and not going to pay big money any time soon.
Ask the seller to get it certified. Tell him if it comes back straight graded XF40 or better you are a buyer.
I see where you're coming from. The poor look to it could also have to do with poor lighting that is compounded from the pictures having been taken on a low-quality phone. Ask for a picture of the reeded edge and post it here. That is often a little-known giveaway when it comes to outing modern "replicas" as they tend to be wildly inaccurate when compared to known genuine pieces.
He is not going to do anything like that. he is not a coin collector or dealer just seen prices on line and wants to sell . What do you Think would be a fair price to be safe?
Does he have any feedback or references of any kind, etc...? Check him/them out, first and foremost. If he and the coin are legit, he'll gladly assist with providing as much info as you want...but you check it out.
I trust your you guys and I will pass. But I will try to get more info . Thanks to all. keep you posted
All seated dollars are rare, but among seated dollars the 1843 is one of the most common particularly in mid-circulated grades. The photos are too bad to be able to determine the die marriage as a tool for authenticity. I don't recommend buying any Liberty Seated Dollar raw unless you are an expert or have access to one. Even if genuine, you should avoid this coin because: 1) Terrible eye appeal. 2) If you are making a "buy" decision from these photos, you should not. 3) Most likely harshly cleaned from excessive or incorrect dipping. The coin is dead and has odd color. 4) There are some indications of pitting on the obverse that make me suspicious.
The reverse is weak around the edge. A genuine Seated Dollar would not have that issue. I don't care for it, and would avoid this piece. Counterfeit Seated Dollars from China have been around for many years. The Chinese have made complete sets and put put them in fake Dansco Albums.
I paid $300 for an 1872 Seated Liberty Dollar PCGS VG10 from one of our wonderful Coin Talk members for my type set recently. I just put an ad in the Want To Buy section here and someone was kind enough to respond with a coin that I needed. I suggest that as a course of action if you've got $300 and want a Seated Liberty Dollar, as I did.
