In the word liberty it looks like the R has a possible die chip. I Also notice that in IGWT kinda looks funny and what I mean buy that. In and God looks to have some doubling in it and the rest of the line We And Trust is really close to the rim nothing like In and God I hope this made a little sence.
It really is easy to find abnormalities like this. They are "comes with the territory" of coin making sort of thing. It could be the die was made a bit off-center or the edge may have worn thin due to hitting the collar... Thanks alurid for the info stuff like that helps me alot now that is what I'm talking about. But the R is not that really for sure about it is a odd looking die chip than the ones I've seen before that is why I even posted it cause it looks odd looking that is all.
I think all die chip are odd looking. They come in different sizes and shapes, And on different areas of the coin. There are some that occur in the same spots on different coins due to the design of the die itself. Like "BIE's" filled B's, R's, 9's, and 6's. Here is one of mine with 4 die chips, two each side.
There is some die deterioration damage, notice how some of the letters have been pushed to the perimeter. Since the image on the coin is the reverse of the die that made it. the part of the die that makes the in the letter "R" , being the reverse will have a "needle " like protrusion to push the metal flow away leaving the opening. If the tip of the needle wears away , or is broken off will leave the metal there ( die chip) ,, so you see a raised portion where the opening in the "R" should be . Like wise , the sharp angle between the legs of the "R" is like the edge of a sharp knife cutting on the metal , and after many strikes, it can chip off or break and we have another "die chip". They hardly ever happen on a flat open space. Jim
