got two rolls of the 2021 dimes from the bank this coin had a black glob on it in two spaces one on his cheek and one in front of his lips under his nose. when I remove the globs with a tooth pick it left an incused spot . do not think it was pmd Because this coin is so brilliant the black stuff even scratch the face of the coin gently moving it off of there with the toothpick.Thinking it was grease upload_2021-6-30_20-46-32.jpeg upload_2021-6-30_20-46-32.jpeg

It may have been hardened grease but it doesn’t matter. It’s a struck through and that’s all that counts. Nice find.

if I were to happen to come across another coin like this would it be best to leave the foreign materials on the coin Because obviously the removal with a toothpick left damage. Hope everyone’s having a great day!

Yeah, for that blackened grease - even hardened - I've found a good acetone soak does an excellent job of dissolving it.

Ha, this is nothing. You should have seen the mangled mess I made of a penny the other day experimenting with trying to clean some verdigris off it. :yack:
    It wasn't pretty.
