Will this cent grade MS66??

This one sure is a beauty, and in hand it is blazing. I've compared it to MS66's and it looks similar and 1964 MS66's are selling for $100+ on Heritage. Let me know what you would grade this one (mine). It's the same coin, just different angles.

I think that would grade, assuming it has nice luster which is not easily these photos. It is a 65 to 66 IMHO. Cool toning

I'd go for it. Looks like a 66 IMHO. Nice coin.

It looks very clean to me. Nice cent. :thumb:

It looks high grade from what I can see, but it also looks like a proof coin...is it? That would make a huge difference in price.

Looks borderline 66. At least 65, possibly 66, IMO and going solely from the photos (which is always kind of a crapshoot).

Sorry, but I don't think it would grade at all. The coin is damaged - look at the large cut under the jaw line.

And if somehow a TPG saw their way to ignore that, they certainly could not grade it higher than 64 - I would hope and pray anyway.

    I agree with Leadfoot's analysis.

BTW, watch out for that "$100+" price. Only the last 2 have gone over $100 and they were only PCGS's. The other 2 PCGS's this year went for $75 and $92. Even the "Jack Lee" pedigree only went for $92 while previous coins went for even less.

MS-65 minimum. The TGP's mainly use luster for hitting the higher grades on Memorial cents.

Boy, I didn't see that. I used to bottom photos to view the larger image.

Doug, that is a strange cut. Is it possible it might be a lamination problem?

Possible yes, but highly unlikely IMO. Notice the cut is not continuous, there is gap in the middle that is unbroken. If it were a lamination issue, I find it unlikely that it would be there.

And I can't believe you guys - even though I have pointed out such a signifcant cut, scratch, gouge, whatever you want to call it, under the jaw line - you still say the coin would grade as a minimum 65 ?

I mean I could understand if you couldn't see it, but I pointed it out. Are you denying that it is there ? Or do you really believe that it would have no impact on the grade ?

I just want to understand your reasoning.

I think the scrape in front of the hair itself precludes a 66, combined with the gouge, it is a 63-64.

I'd say it does look like a proof, especially in the 1st obverse pic. Looks like it was struck with more force and more perfectly formed letters/numbers

Doug, I have to disagree with you on this one since I have the coin in hand. Although there are marks there, it is nowhere near the severity that the picture shows. It is more like a hairline which two lights have cast their light upon and created the illusion of a huge mark. It looks the same as any other mark you see on the coin, and I am being very truthful...it does not look bad at all in hand. Also, the luster on the coin is blazing fire-red, a real beauty.
