For comment, below find digital images of an 1898 1 centavo from my collection. It appears to be a late die state obverse with many letters in 'REPUBLICA' missing parts due die wear or die filling. In addition, 'RPUBLIC' appear to exhibit 'machine doubling'. The red arrow on the first image below indicates what appears to be extra metal scrap struck into the blank. It also appears to my eye that the 'R' in 'REPUBLICA' uses a smaller font than the balance of the letters. The reverse appears to exhibit a 'doubled' first '8' or is struck over another numeral ('6'?). OBVERSE, IMAGE 1 OBVERSE, IMAGE 2 OBVERSE, IMAGE 3
I see what you're talking about, but I don't know much about the small denomination bronze/copper Mexico coins. When it comes to Mexico coins for me, " If it ain't Silver, then it don't Deliver." Sorry I couldn't help.
Thanks to CoinCorgi and Hookman for responding. Was hoping that I could verify that the coin in hand might be a new variety. I see Hookman's being partial to silver and applaud his position. My problem is that all coins 'Deliver'.
I'm going to refer you to 2 guys who know so much more than I do about errors on coins, because I believe that is what you have here, errors. BTW, this how you call for help if you know who you want to call. @paddyman98 @Fred Weinberg EDIT : BTW, I just checked your ID and you've been around here since 2019 so you probably already know these 2 guys. Good Luck
Thanks to all who responded. I think that paddyman98 may be nearer the truth with the clash hypothesis. I thought initially that the '8' may have been re-punched but am leaning now toward the clash idea. SRS
