    When the coins are minted, they slide down chutes into large containers and sometimes get hit by the other coin. This is most likely what happened to your coin. The reeded edge of one coin struck poor old George's face. Not an error and very common, so NAV, no added value. Good luck and Welcome to CT.

    When the coins are struck they become very hot due to the striking pressure between the dies. This makes them rather soft compared to cold coins. When they are ejected into the hopper for collection they are easily damaged by the reeded edges of other coins. Although commonly called bag marks (because the coins are constantly banging into each other when transported in bags) I believe more marks are made in the hoppers than in the bags because the coins are pretty hard in the bags. But that is just my opinion.

    I like how they restored Washington's face on the obverse to how he used to look 30 years + ago. They need to do the same for the nickel and penny as well. The nickel looks more like a ghost rider face on the obverse than anything else. Like his face is almost transparent.
