Hi guys, I have this 1982 P Washington Quarter and would like to know why the quarter is weighing in at 5.34 grams? I compared it to other quarters and it is the same width as other quarters (Right quarter of edge comparison).
Still pretty normal just a little less from 39 years of wear and tear, also the enviormental damage kicking in.
Another member posted this US coin weight chart once. It's extremely helpful. I bookmarked it and use it quite often. https://www.cointalk.com/attachments/us-coins-weight-composition-and-tolererances-jpg.1257744/
Because of the environmental damage and the excessive wear, the weight of the coin is irrelevant…imo…Spark
The surface looks soft, as if it has been in an acidic environment, such as the ground. This would leach some of the metal from the surface without looking like obvious wear. Wear itself, until it becomes quite substantial, removes only very negligible amounts of metal.
