Humpty, the rear cent appears to be a wide A M. Check the 'FG' initials.
If the 'G' has a straight vertical leg with a horizontal top on it then that confirms a WAM. The top of the 'G' should not extend past the vertical leg.
The front cent is a close AM. you can easily see that the spacing between the M and the E is also extra wide. THE 'G' on this cent will not have a straight vertical leg with a horizontal top on it.
This is gospel for recognizing Wide A M's.

Check my Avatar. That's from a WAM.

I hope my above post wasn't too confusing for you. Just use my Avatar as a reference. It might take a 10x loupe to see it.
2002-p or 2002-d cents are unheard of having a wide A M reverse. Please take another look for me. Thanks a lot. zeke

Wow, thanks Zek for the info. I'll be getting shopping for a loupe tomorrow/Thursday.

Don't go by the spacing of the'FG' initials from the base of the stairs. I've seen 'close AM's' with initials closer than some wide A M's.

The saying: Close to the stairs= wide A M
Far from the stairs= close AM

    is just that, a saying.

GO BY THIS FOR A WIDE A M
    1) If the 'A' and the 'M' don't touch, check the initails first.

    2) If it is still hard to tell, check the spacing between the 'M' and the 'E'.
It should be normal, no extra space.

    3) If you are still not sure, check for die clashes in between the columns
of the memorial. If you see them chances are (90%) the cent is a wide A M.

It is not a wide AM.

The space between the M and E matters too. On a Close AM which this one is...there is more space between the bottoms of the M and E of AMERICA. The letters A M E are about equally spaced on a Wide AM.

    Thanks,
    Bill
