Its here - a 2009 in review thread! Let's see your favorite coin purchased this year (not necessarily your most expensive!) Looking back, I find that several of my favorite coins in my collection were purchased this year. The clincher, as it were, has to be my most recent purchase, however - the capstone of my Franklin collection. Yes, I'm going to post it again - my triumphal purchase of a 1952S NGC MS-65FBL was the highlight of my year (numismatic and otherwise).
Only one of many - the reason this one is a favorite is because it was so cheap for a 1796(at least in my opinion). Plus it fits into the dansco album and I do not want others to thing their favorite coin needs to be a high grade coin.
While my Lafayette Dollar was my most significant addition, my favorite coin of the year is my destiny nickel (read linked thread for explanation). http://www.cointalk.com/t64127/ Nice freakin Franklin BTW.
Wow, this one was really hard. I just can't pick my one favorite from this year, so I'm going to cheat and pick my two favorites as I stare and drool at each of them often. Both were purchased in February 2009:
This Massachusetts Large Planchet Pine Tree Shilling is definitely my favourite purchase in 2009. A coin I had wanted for a long time, and it is a rare variety as well for the large planchet issue. It goes well with the small planchet shilling I had purchased earlier.
Hmm...Who would have guessed my favorite purchase was a quarter eagle? :kewl: I plan to sell this, and get a MS63 or a 64. The price is very close on 63-64's on some dates, and I'd be willing to shell out the extra couple hundred bucks for the better grade. The one I am showing now, is a nice MS62, although there is one question spot near the shoulder, which I believe is wear, but have gotten other opinions saying it is not. At first the spot didn't bother me, but it is starting to bother me a little more. Still a beautiful coin, and definitely my favorite purchase of 2009!
she's pretty There were some very expensive coins purchased in 2009. This one happens to be one of the lowest cost coins of the year. I think I paid $7.
I'm a little late to this thread, but want to add my favorite purchase from 2009: You can read more about this piece here: http://www.cointalk.com/t63698/
That's a tough one .... I was fortunate to be able to acquire so many great coins in 2009 !! But my favorite (a this moment) would have to be this one: Italian State (Republic of Florence) - Fiorino d’oro (Florin) No Date (1252-1300) NGC AU-58 I had been looking to add a nice example of one of these original issue designs (1252-1300, without a mintmark) to my collection for several years and was finally successful. A truly historic coin and my oldest coin collected to date !!!
