I have an 1881 U.S. Five dollar gold coin on which I can't find a mint stamp.
From what little I know (I'm a newbie, obviously) it should have c, cc, d, o or s. Although it does have a very tiny blemish, it is otherwise in very good condition with nominal wear. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,

no mintmark means it was minted in philadelphia. Posting pictures would help us grade/authenticate it for you.

You need to get a book on coins. Red Book by R. S. Yeoman and study it so you will know more about coins. It will help you, if you are really interested in acquiring a collection of coins. The five dollar gold was made in Philadelphia. Good Luck. :)-O)

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

Look on the reverse below the eagle for a mint mark, if there is one.

It looks like this S-mint from 1882:

You can just barely make out the little S below the Eagle's talons.

If there is no mint mark, the coin is from Philadelphia.

    Hope this helps...Mike
