no luck today.. guy at the hobby/smoke/lottery shop (i should have just turned around when i read the shop sign) didnt have a clue what i was asking and didnt have a scale to weigh it... at Bed bath and beyond the food scales worked but it weighed in at 7g and i forgot to bring in a regular quarter for comparison:desk: and im sure the scale wasnt calibrated .....real coin shop opens tommorrow will let everybody know then
Per 2010 RedBook for Copper-Nickel clad Quarters and clad State Quarters (.750 copper, .250 nickel) bonded to inner core of pure copper: 5.67 grams (weight) and 24.3 mm (diameter) As for silver proof quarters and pre-1965 quarters: 6.25 grams weight (.900 silver, .100 copper) and 24.3 mm (diameter)
Coin shop weight was 5.62. Told me it weighs more than a regular quarter that somebody coated it.... Boooooo that stinks. Thought I had something unique. Well I guess u do. I've got a quarter somebody dipped Yay for me LOL
Jimmy, Was that a typo on your behalf? If not, then how is 5.62 more than what a regular quarter weighs? Did you see the info I gave you in a previous post?
I did read your post and was a bit confused when they weighed the coin. And showed me how much it said. Before I went I used a Digital postal scale here at work and it uses OZ so I used a converter and got the grams at 5.67. Then did regular .25 for compare it to was 5.67. I can only guess their scale was not calibrated precise. At this point I'm not sure what to do.
Jimmy, You can ask another dealer for a second opinion in your area (and to do another reading on a different scale) or look for an error coin examiner. Email or PM jpegs of your coin to Mike Diamond or Ken Potter (contact on bottom of page). They might be able to help you.
Weight for a clad quarter is 5.67 +/- .227 grams so your coin is well within the tolerance range. If it had been missing both clad layers it would have been more like 4 grams.
Going to jewelry store in the morning.. their scales have got to be precise to get gold weights for buying and selling cause you know they dont want to miss anything on that so ill post official weight then... thanks agian guys
As Mike stated, your coin is either plated, discolored from environmental damage or an error from an improperly annealed planchet (which quite frankly I didn't think of in my earlier post). Your coin is definitely not missing the clad layers. I would suggest sending it to him for evaluation.

I found a new Jersey copper on both sides I put a standard statehood next to it laying down.. It's the same thickness.. Not sure about the weight. I also have another one that is an Indiana it has nickel tips on the highpoints on both sides.. It's a little rougher than the Jersey coin..but the Jersey coin looks like it was struck yesterday as far as condition gos..
