Mexico 1 centavo 1891, 9/9

    Below for comment, find digital images of a Mexico 1 centavo from my collection, that appears to a repunched '9/9'. The '9' appears to exhibit two ears. Possible new variety?

    I'm not familiar with these but to me it just looks like damage,the coin has been through a lot.

    Thanks to derkerlegand and potty dollar 1878 for responding.

    The two "ears" are in fact not incused like damage to the coin but raised in relief. To my eye, it appears that a 9 was initially entered too high; it was then corrected and entered lower. After lapping, the initial entry was nearly eliminated with just a remnant of the first entry remaining.
