Was wondering about my lincoln cent being a doubled ear.if so,would this be the first 1988 "D" variety?
You see the earlobe?ive seen examples on other years with that same pattern, only on his neck, and was legit.idk wishful thinking tho right?lol
There is some oddness in the look of the ear. But that is just the plating blisters distorting the image.
I appreciate all of everyones comments and opinions.yet i feel like the pattern on his earlobe is the bottom of his ear with the neck line attached to it.again...i respect all comments and opinions
Appears like a normal ear. Appearances due to strike and wear on the die can vary, but I only see a single lobe. Imo Jim
I'm not seeing what you evidently are, but if you've done some research and are convinced, send it in for authentication. That way, every one gets to know what it is.
There's nothing unusual, that ear is completely normal. Look at others. If you don't have any in your collection, look on the Internet. You can't determine anything like this just looking at magnified pictures of one 1988-D, it'll drive you bonkers. There were over 5-billion of these minted, on literally thousands of working dies, so if verification means that much to you, you're not exactly not stuck for comparables. Just put forth the effort. Or, in lieu of that, trust us. And there you got it.
No 88D cents with doubling around the ear are listed by Wexler or Variety Vista If you think you found something, the following sites should be your first stop Www.doubleddie.com Www.varietyvista.com Not only do they have extensive listings of doubled dies, they have good explanations of how to tell true doubling from worthless mechanical doubling and die deterioration. One of the best ways to get good at spotting true doubling is to look at a lot of examples and those sites have lots of pics.
I know it at NWT - Newbie Wishful Thinking Did you purchase that Cent from someone else? In your title and post you state the correct numismatic terminology which is Doubled.. But someone wrote Double which is incorrect Or did you just forget to add the d at the end?
